Essential Equipment for Your Home Studio
You don't need expensive equipment to start broadcasting, but investing wisely can significantly improve your production quality.
Microphones
Budget: Audio-Technica ATR2100x ($80) - Great USB/XLR combo mic
Mid-range: Shure SM7B ($400) - Industry standard for voice
Premium: Electro-Voice RE20 ($450) - Excellent broadcast mic
Audio Interface
If using an XLR mic, you'll need an interface to connect to your computer. The Focusrite Scarlett Solo ($110) is a reliable starting point.
Headphones
The Audio-Technica ATH-M50x ($150) offers excellent monitoring at a reasonable price.
Acoustic Treatment
Foam panels, bass traps, and diffusers reduce room reflections. DIY solutions can be cost-effective.
Pop Filter & Boom Arm
A pop filter ($20) reduces plosives, and a boom arm ($50+) provides flexible mic positioning.
Software
Many excellent broadcast tools are free. OBS for streaming, Audacity for editing, and OwnARadio for station management.
